James 1:21 "Wherefore lay aside all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your souls."

The Word is the instrument for the salvation of the soul.  The Word restores the mind.  If you had an old but valuable chair, a rare antique, maybe a priceless treasure that has been in the family for decades and it got worn out, you wouldn't throw it away would you?  I sure hope not.  You would look for an artisan with great skill.  The artisan would carefully restore the piece of furniture to its original state of grace.  The Word of God is that skillful artisan that restores your mind to its original state of grace.  Your mind is too valuable to waste.  After your spirit, your mind is the next greatest treasure that you possess.  Let us look at a few scriptures that show us the effect of God's Word on the mind.

Psalm 119: 129-130, "Thy testimonies are wonderful therefore doth my soul keep them.  The entrance of your Word giveth light; it giveth understanding to the simple."

The Psalmist said the entrance (or meditation of thy (God's) Word gives light.  Light here means illumination.  Have you ever seen these comics where someone suddenly had a bright idea?  That bright idea is often illustrated using a light bulb.  That is exactly what the bible is talking about here.  The entrance of God's Word opens you up to bright ideas.  I tell you we need to come up with more bright ideas in the kingdom of God.  We have the Word of God, the instrument with which God restores our mental capacities.

The more you expose yourself to the Word of God, the more revolutionary ideas you will come up with.  In fact, you are supposed to constantly produce solutions that will change your world.  You see believers all over the world slaving over other people's ideas when they could come up with even greater innovations.  You are a mine of ideas.  Can you picture yourself as a vessel of creativity and witty inventions?  You had better start doing so because that is what you are.

Psalm 119: 97-100 "O how I love thy law!  It is my meditation all day.  Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.  I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.  I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts."

Meditation on the Word of God has enormous effects on the mind.  It makes your understanding greater than that of people that should be teaching you.  I can never forget the effect that meditation on God's Word had on my mind as a student.  After I determined that God's Word was always going to be final authority in my life, I began to experience outstanding results.  Before studying for or taking any final, test quiz or even homework, I would set apart about 15 minutes to meditate on God's word.  Anytime I did this, the Word of God literally expanded my mental capability.  I remember a particular semester that I was taking six intense classes.  I stayed focused on the Word of God throughout that semester.  My mental capability expanded based on my exposure to the Word of God.  To the amazement of my professors and my course adviser (a professor emeritus), I went on to have six ‘A's that semester.

The same thing can happen on the job.  As you expose yourself to the word of God, you will come up with ideas that will set you apart and distinguish you in the workplace.  The world is yet to see believers operating in their full capacities.  It is time to rise up and be all the Word of God enables you to be.  Do not just depend on your degree from college to set you apart.  Depend on the mind of Christ.
